This question is just as important, if not more so, than “how” does one go about losing weight. Because while the mechanics of weight loss are largely understood, it is still something that the majority of people struggle with.
I think once a person answers this question, and really internalizes the answers, dieting becomes much, much easier. The idea for this came from The Beck Diet Solution
So how to go about this?
Well, for me, first thing I did was really think about my life and my priorities. Why did I want to lose weight? What would happen if I did lose the weight? What would happen if I never lost the weight? I made a list of the top 10 reasons or so.
Then I set myself a reminder to read this list twice per day – first thing in the morning, and also in the early evening, when I tend to struggle with food cravings.
This helps me battle those little voices in there that I always succumb to when I shouldn’t like:
- It’s just one piece/serving
- It’ll taste really yummy
- I’ll just have one (hahahahah!)
- I really would like to taste something sweet right now
- I’ll do better tomorrow
- It won’t make that much of a difference
If I have the priorities in my mind, it makes saying no easier.
