Generosity and Abundance

Me:
I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of generosity
mainly money related
BFF:
how’s that?
Me:
I think there’s a shift that happens when you tithe or give to charity
at least, that’s reported
by others who do it
I struggle with that
and I am noticing examples of people giving when they have way less than I do
BFF:
a shift in what way?
Me:
I was walking to the waterfront in San Francisco and I was walking through the Tenderloin at like 7:30am, I didn’t realize it was such a crap neighborhood at the time
and some old guy with no teeth was collecting change off the sidewalk, and dropped a penny
I bent over and picked it up and handed it back to him
he shook his head and smiled and gave me back a dime
BFF:
ok..
wow
Me:
This man who has nothing gave me 10 cents
10X more than I just gave him
Me:
So there are these people who have way less than me who feel like they have something to spare
anyway to answer your question about what type of shift
a shift in basically – how abundant you feel, and therefore, become
people that give report higher levels of happiness
BFF:
is anyone ever so bad off they can’t give? I’ve always said that if I ever couldn’t help anyone at all, that I was poor.
Me:
like, homeless guy with no teeth can afford to give me 10 cents
and I don’t even need 10 cents
I don’t need $10
and if we’re really serious I don’t even need $100000
anyway I was walking in SF and I was walking along the marina
and there’s all these expensive boats in there you know
like the Steve Jobs of the world have their large boats so they can go on the SF bay on a Saturday
boats that cost like a ridiculous amount of money, and then keeping them in the downtown marina, another ridiculous amount of money
and like – I noticed I have this mindset of people that have a ridiculous amount of money –like they are wasting it, they are spending it so inefficiently
BFF:
ugh… there’s some bad things that come with that – I’ve known plenty of them in my old business –
Me:
and so – maybe I am blocking myself from procuring a ridiculous amount of money – because the examples I see of people with it are all wasting it
so I should focus on people that have a ton and aren’t wasting it, like bill gates and warren buffett
BFF:
ok.. there’s an expression that money takes on the personality of its owner
and you can make lots of money and do great and wonderful things withit
Me:
I have this idea about earning $1million per year
BFF:
I can see that
Me:
The first $5 million – I’d split five ways, and use 5 different investment strategies, and so no matter what I should be set, right
and then just give away the rest
Me:
and yeah I’d have a decently nice house and car, whatever, nothing too crazy but enough to be comfortable, whatever
anyway so yeah… I’ve been pondering that
BFF:
sure makes sense. You seem to have a really good idea of what you actually need
it’s a very worthy introspection
Me:
and I should be celebrating other people’s abundance and making a ton of money rather than condemning the evidence of it
BFF:
condemning the evidence of what exactly?
Me:
like if I see someone with a stupid expensive yacht I should be like, oh look, there’s evidence that it’s possible to earn so much money, that I could afford a yacht if I wanted to, this person did it
Me:
rather than “that guy has a yacht instead of saving 10000 people in Africa”
BFF:
Well sure… and maybe the guy with the yacht is also saving 10000 people in Africa
Me:
yeah, also true
I cannot even fathom having a billion dollars
there are people who have a billion dollars
like that is part of the reason I don’t have a billion dollars, because I don’t even know what that’s all about, it’s not even something I believe to be possible
BFF:
hmm… I think there is a certain amount of vision required to make a billion dollars
Me:
yeah agreed
BFF:
have you ever read Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich? I think it’s right up your ally
Me:
no I need to it’s on my list
BFF:
but if a billion dollars seems like so much… start with a million
Me:
$1 millon per year is a good start haha
I can work with that
BFF:
heck… I’m starting lower  because that’s where I’m at
Me:
we all start somewhere
BFF:
yes… but after you make that first million, then you will have the faith for the vision of more
Me:
right now my income is like zero
but I’m not really panicked
BFF:
yes… i think that’s a sign for both of us
to look at other things
other ways of making money
our finances shouldn’t depend on our current lives
and it’s not helping us grow to make money or dreams happen
Me:
exactly
I’m grateful for it but it’s like the universe shut my income down right now so I can have time and energy to focus on this new thing
BFF:
I think so… it’s simultaneously kicking me in the ass LOL
Me:
anyway it’s kind of a backwards concept
logically a person would think “oh I will earn a ton of money and THEN give it away”
when really it might be that feeling abundant enough to give money away may be what actually enables you to earn a ton of money
so you should give when you have nothing to receive later
BFF:
yes… you are onto something
that’s a truth commonly used in churches for tithing
for me it’s more of a concept of flow
if you have money/help/kindness flowing out then more can flow into your life
Me:
yeah exactly
I have this image of a fire hose or a faucet that’s just pouring out money
and I can use it to fill up my 5 little buckets
BFF:
I like it
Me:
and then I can direct it over to Africa or whatever and use the fire hose to shower them with money
like you are just a conduit for it
you are just channeling the bucks
BFF:
yes.. that’s a good word
and once you concentrate them you can then allocate them
BFF:
you should write this stuff down somewhere …
Me:
thank you for listening
BFF:
I’m serious
Me:
well first I have to prove it’s real
BFF:
haha.. you don’t have to prove something for it to be real
Me:
I can’t write with authenticity until I personally believe it’s 100% real
and I’m not there yet unfortunately
BFF:
so you’re not proving it’s real
you’re learning to use it in your own life
it’s like electricity
electricity is real whether you believe or not
now if you want to teach people how to use electricity to benefit their lives… you have to learn to do that yourself

Made me think… 🙂
